Debate (full of) Number Two: Lies So Bold They’d Make Nixon Blush
October 10, 2016
So once again the nation sat down hoping to watch the candidates answer important questions about relevant issues. This would be a welcome change from the first debate, but instead we got much of the same from both candidates: Trump went on what seemed to be the same tirade every time he got the chance to speak, repeatedly interrupting when he wasn’t satisfied with not answering the questions asked; Hillary walked the line between constantly defending herself and answering questions so vaguely that nothing she said could be construed as a lie. The result was the circus we all witnessed, with a petulant child arguing with a stereotypical politician. Today, we’ve decided to collect the most obvious dogshit lies Donald Trump brought up in last night’s “debate.”
In response to questions about a recent video of some questionable comments, Trump repeated the claim that “[he has] great respect for women,” and “no one has greater respect for women than [him].” He continues to repeat these claims despite mountains of evidence to the contrary. Time and time again we see the sexist remarks made to and about women, all of which indicate a total and complete lack of respect for them. Yet, somehow, there are women who actually believe him!
In regards to Obamacare, Trump called it “a disaster.” He claimed premiums went up by unbelievable amounts, and that it was unaffordable for people on it and those providing it. While this claim may be contentious at best, what strikes one as suspicious is that he then clearly avoided the question regarding his claim that people would not be excluded for coverage, despite his plan to abolish the plan that mandates coverage for all individuals.
As he has said numerous times now, Donald Trump continues to insist that Syrian refugees are not being vetted, and that “we know nothing about them.” This is, and always has been, patently absurd. As fact-checkers have said in the past, refugees are, and always have been, vetted upon entry to the US. In fact, they undergo the most rigorous vetting out of anyone entering the country! In regards to taxes, Trump repeated the claim he purports that the US has the highest taxes in the world. We’re not even in the top 27 on personal income tax, and we’re only third highest in corporate income tax. By this point watching the debate, the meter on my “disaster” counter has broken. It is, by far, Donald Trump’s favorite word.
In response to a Tweet that Donald Trump had sent out regarding Alicia Machado, he was asked about the comment to “check out sex tape...” In response, he claimed that he had never said that. In fact, the Tweet can be pulled up and one can read the words themselves. He said it. This seems to be a popular tactic for Donald, and for someone who uses social media and the internet, it’s amazing how oblivious he seems to be regarding fact-checking. In an age where video and audio recordings, as well as written word, can be archived indefinitely and accessed in the blink of an eye, for anyone, especially a politician, to claim they “never said that” when they obviously did is a pathetic excuse.
To be fair, this was supposed to be an article highlighting the lies told by both parties. Dumps For Democracy does not support any candidate and wants a balanced coverage of political issues. After watching the debate and staying on top of fact-checkers, we realized that Donald Trump is just better at lying. He knows lies, he really does. Believe me, he knows how to make the best lies. But because we value a fair and balanced coverage of the faults of our two wonderful choices, we’d like to hear from you, the reader. Let us know in the comments if we missed anything deplorable said by Hillary or, if we missed something especially dishonest said by Trump. Better yet, if you enjoyed this article and you want to see more like it, be sure to take a look at our dog poop bags and show your support (or lack thereof) today!
