Nothing warms our hearts more than knowing we have a strong, intelligent, and vocal leader who will drive our country to success. So why is that...er...

If Hillary & Trump Were Tried Overseas, This Is What Would Happen.
October 10, 2016
At this point it doesn't matter whether or not you support Hillary or Trump, everyone knows they have been caught in questionable actions that have pushed ethics and even legality. Most people feel, however, that they haven't been held to the same standards that a normal individual would have been held to. So since the U.S. justice system is the only thing that gets questioned more than why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, perhaps we can look at international court systems and see how their top 3 questionable actions would have been treated otherwise. Here, I did some research to see if I could find other businesses and individuals who committed similar acts to Hillary and Trump and how they were handled in courts.
It is important to note that it's virtually impossible to make a completely fair comparison between the US Justice system and any other justice system. Not only this, but there may not also be an equal violation. With this being said, we can only do our best to dig up the closest examples we can find. With that, here we go!
Trump University - Trump
Trump University started in 2005 and lasted until 2010. The purpose was to educate others about how to make money in the real estate business using secrets and techniques that Trump had used. Trump University had to soon change the name to the "Trump Entrepreneur Initiative" because it couldn't legally consider itself a university in the state of NY as it had no educational license. Many students have said the whole thing had been a scam in which they've paid hefty amounts of money only to receive nothing in return that they were promised. How might this have been handled in the United Kingdom?
A similar case could be found about a bogus college in the UK called the National Distance Learning College. Here, 80,000 students had paid for an education and virtually none had received anything in return (Only 18 students ever received degrees). A 6 year investigation ultimately revealed a $16M scam (In British Pounds) which eventually led to a 7 year sentence in prison for the leader. There were several people involved in the case, and the money had been spent on things like gambling, horse racing, and other terrible things. Unfortunately, it does not seem as though the students made their money back as there was $3M pounds of debt even at the litigation. More can be found here.
Email Scandal - Clinton
Clinton's email scandal has been so sweeping that simply typing in "email scandal" in Google will result in page after page detailing what had happened. So to reiterate, Clinton had been blamed for sending top secret information over her own private email server instead of State Department email accounts maintained on federal servers. FBI had found her to be technologically incompetent, and therefore recommended no action taken. There had been a variety of potential violations from open record laws to cover ups. Of course, the whole email debacle goes farther down the rabbit hole but for the purpose of this article we are to keep it simple. Let's look at a similar case overseas.
First off, it was incredibly difficult to find a similar scandal that happened internationally. However, there was a case by Mercedes-Benz in which they were charged in mishandling customer information. Now although this is not exactly the same case as Clinton, the point is that standards were put in place through certain mediums which had not been followed. In this case, an auto finance portion of Mercedes-Benz Korea was charged for mishandling customer information which had allowed unauthorized personnel to see customer data. Despite warnings and recommendations, eventually they had been found to not follow security measures and were fined $43.6 million in USD equivalent. More can be found here.
Buying His Own Books - Trump
This particular case has not garnered as much attention as many of Trump's other cases. In this one, Trump has alleged to buy $55,000 worth of his own book to give out to his campaign team, and used campaign funds. The issue is that it is illegal to profit from campaign funds.
In a similar instance, Brazilian politicians have been under fire for high levels of corruption including accepting bribes, taking government money, and even looking to pass new laws that prevent some of these types of corruption. Joao Santana was recently arrested (the president's campaign manager) after it was found he diverted funds from the government owned oil company, Petrobas. This included numerous other politicians, however he was seen as a key figure. The similarity to this is that Dilma had been found to use Petrobas money to fund her own campaign, along with instances of others accepting money as bribes through Petrobas. Although the actions and dollar amounts are not identical, fact remains that the politicians had used funds that did not belong to them. Jail times have ranged from months to years. Stolen White House Items - Clinton
One of the events that happened during the Clinton era is they had been suspected of taking $200,000 worth of furniture and other items from the White House as Bill left office. Although fact checkers have argued the amounts vary significantly, all artwork had been returned. Yet, this should sound somewhat familiar to some readers as it's not the first time in history politicians have supposedly stolen from publicly owned areas.
One of the most famous involves the Nazi Plunder, in which Nazi's stole from other countries (mostly art) and eventually, the same items from themselves during their dismantling. Yet, a more recent incident also happened in Ukraine. Primarily, a group of Ukranian Nationalists had stolen art from the Hoorn museum and held them for ransom. Over the years, there have been attempts to recoop the artwork which has been damaged. The paintings have been cut out of frames, moved hands, and most likely offered (illegally) in exchange for weapons and other items. Although attempts had been made to sell back the artwork, many have fallen through as demands could not be met, mostly due to the fact the ransoms were way above the actual value of the artwork now that it had been damaged. Unfortunately in this case, it does not appear as though anyone has been held accountable enough to be sent to prison. More can be found here.
Accepting Foreign Donated Campaign Funds - Clinton
This one was a bit of an iffy subject. In 1996, the Clintons had come under fire for potentially accepting money from China, and later again from the Saudis, that could potentially swing politics to favor that country. For this reason, this act is illegal unless the money is coming from citizens in that country. Although there had been investigations that looked into the China donations, not enough evidence had been present for a charge.
A similar case had come up in India in regards to two parties receiving international campaign funds. This is illegal for the same reasons it is illegal in the United States. The court had a lot of interesting cases brought up that varied from whether or not it can be a business vs an individual, and whether or not the owner of the business is a citizen of India regardless of the location of the business. In this case, ultimately, they were found guilty in 2014. However, the legalities had been readdressed in 2016 to allow foreign companies with Indian ownership to be allowed to donate. This has had a lot of backlash by a number of citizens and politicians for "endangering democracy." However, this may change any upcoming penalties for BJP and Congress as the 2014 verdict has not yet reached Supreme Court. Could this be counted as corruption? As of now, verdicts are on hold. Trump Foundation - Trump
Many of the rich and politically famous are known to run their own charitable foundations. Trump Foundation has been under scrutiny for hardly using money for charity and, in fact, using it for other things such as settling lawsuits, using it for pass-throughs, self-dealing, and more. Many of which if not illegal, can be considered highly unethical and an abuse of the system. Although there is a current investigation, Lets look at other charitable foundations that have been found to be considered illegal and what repercussions had come up.
The Orion Foundation was run and operated in Canada, providing help to those suffering from AIDS in Africa. Realistically, the same company that helped run it also had a company that ran high class escort agencies and credit card processing networks. Millions of dollars had been donated to this agency and many people who had donated to them and used those write offs, had to pay back those write offs after they were found to not be real donations. Almost no money in comparison to what was raised actually went to donations, and most was kept for luxury cruises, cars...the usual. Interestingly, the primary mastermind behind this is named James Arion (Originally Aryan, changed for obvious white supremacy undertones). The most annoying thing about this, is that Mr. Arion does not appear to have had any prosecutions against him. More so, a slap on the wrist and he was no longer allowed to run the business as a non profit. Years served? 0. More found here and here.
To my own surprise, I came into writing this article expecting insane prison sentences and outlandish verdicts. However, it was to my surprise that so many other countries seemed as behind as we were and unable to truly come to realize their own flaws. Or, if not that, that they could not act upon what they knew was wrong because it was simply too slow of a system or one that had not yet been designed to handle the truly unethical. Either way, I hope this was a learning experience for all. I have provided links to all articles from which I have derived information. And for anyone that plans to do a similar article, the "exclude" function in Google is always useful!
